Garden was dreamed up in the kitchen of my tiny apartment in France, in 2018. I am inspired by the wonderful tastes and smells of the marketplaces in my second home of Burgundy, especially the heavenly, aromatic Middle-Eastern flavours, and by nature, which lends itself to the beauty and flavour of my cakes.

I bake from my home kitchen in New Plymouth, overlooking a verdant and flower-sprinkled garden - my happy place.

I’m Rose, a baker and mum of 2 little boys. If I’m not baking, eating cheese or kid-wrangling, I’m dreaming up new flavours or reading about food.

My cakes often reflect the seasons and what is on offer from local producers. They’re enhanced with beautiful fresh or dried flowers, foliage and berries. Homemade fruit curds or infused-soaks feature rather than fondants or toppers.

There are classics on the menu, but it changes often and I like to push the boundaries with flavours and combinations that might surprise.

The look on someone’s face when they open a box with one of my cakes inside is a moment of real joy and satisfaction for me- every time.
